I’m not a makeup professional and/or hoarder but I do know this: I love wearing and putting on makeup. The very effort of getting ready for school, hangouts, or errands by putting on foundation, brow products, mascara, lipstick, etc. is so satisfying for me. Let it be clear, however, that by saying so, I’m not doing it for the sake of pleasing others as well. No – that’s a big NO. That’s always a stereotype whenever people know someone who loves makeup. But news flash: not everyone does it because they want attention or they want others to envy how beautiful they are. Some people do it because it is their passion, it makes them happy, or it makes them more confident about themselves.
So now that I’ve said what I always wanted to say, let’s review the new and first product in the line of makeup to be released under Althea Korea’s collection.
What is Althea Korea?
Althea Korea is a popular Korean beauty online shop that is based in Korea but has now branched out in Southeast Asia. It also ships to many countries including Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and even United States.
What is Althea Petal Velvet Powder?
It is a loose powder made entirely with micro-fine, pure, natural ingredients. These include the Althea flower seed extract that is said to be full of antioxidants that protect the skin from dehydration and invigorate the skin for beautiful complexion. The product’s features include:
- Makeup setting and long wearing
- Sebum control and pore-blurring
- Natural and cruelty-free ingredients
- Micro-fine particles and soft, smooth texture
Along with these features, the product is said to be translucent and claims to give a mattified and satin finish on the skin without dehydrating it. Finally, the product also minimizes the appearance of pores and reveals a flawless, petal-like complexion.
What do I think of the Althea Petal Velvet Powder?
Disclaimer: I have a combination skin.
My instant thought was that the packaging was very pretty. I’ve heard that Althea really does great in terms of packaging so I wasn’t surprised when I open the box and found some rose petals and a slice of Mandarin orange (that were already kind of dry huhu). Heading onto the product itself, the packaging was also very beautiful. The container is a semi-glass type and the cover is plastic but still sturdy enough.
When I opened the product, it has a puff inside. I first tried it on in my bare face and I can’t seem to find so much difference except that my skin was velvety and smooth already. Also, my pores were somehow closed but not clogged and my skin was shine-free. My skin imperfections were still visible but it’s fine because the product does not claim to cover them.
The second time I tried the Althea Petal Velvet Powder is as a setting powder to my makeup. This is a more effective way of using it for me. Although my skin was already mattified after putting on foundation, the powder seems to mattify it more and make my skin velvety and smooth. There are also no visible white marks on my face and my face did not look cakey because the Althea Petal Velvet Powder is translucent. The downside for me though was that it was small and it was kind of quick to melt (especially since I am living in a tropical country). Mine only lasted for approximately 4 hours. (Note that I have combination skin.)
The question now though is, would I recommend it? This is hard to say because this is the first setting powder that I’ve tried. However, the Althea Petal Velvet Powder stayed true to its claims and came from natural ingredients. Those seemed to win me over. So yes, I definitely recommend it. 😊
Where can you buy it?
